Center for Geospatial Information Technology

The Center for Geospatial Information Technology (CGIT), is an institutional focal point for Virginia Tech faculty and staff who specialize in — or use geospatial information technology as — an integral component of their research, teaching, and outreach mission. Founded as a research center in 2003, CGIT's primary role is to provide focused and multi-disciplinary research using the latest in information technology, communications, geographic information systems, and global positioning systems. CGIT is located both at the flagship campus in Blacksburg and in the heart of Old Town Alexandria to serve the National Capital Region.

The Center seeks to implement partnerships, bringing researchers and partners together to utilize the newest and most applicable geospatial information technology tools for solving critical research questions in Virginia and throughout the nation. Current research at CGIT includes projects related to environmental management, transportation, and wireless GIS.

One center, two locations, countless possibilities.
